La Macina di San Cresci

“Artists are interesting creatures. We can be obsessive, dedicated, spirited and single minded in our pursuit for that perfect realisation of our art. We tend to be outsiders and are often that square peg in the round hole, so when you find an oasis like San Cresci you hold on tight -- for it’s that sense of belonging which welcomes you.”

The world moves me to make, and I make to move the world. I am always trying to confront my fears, bring awareness to my ignorance, listen to others, give everyone the chance to be heard, and understand my past. Though these ideals are impossible, I believe dance is limitless. My work is selfish/selfless and terribly honest. So far, I have only made work with people who identify with being non-binary or female. I am unsure if I do this for myself or others. The importance of permission is heavily instilled in me. Permission of touch, permission of manipulation, permission to ask something of another person. My work is weighed down by research and movement. Blending heaviness with creating in a light way gives my work an easily understood story yet complex and layered life of its own. I have many questions and through my process I try to untangle, make up, or find the answer. Maybe my dancers have the answer, the viewers, my mom, people who will never see my work, or me. But my work always demands an answer.
