Max Lyandvert is a composer, sound designer and director whose work with major theatre companies has garnered him many awards. He has won two Helpmann Awards, in 2008 for War of the Roses and 2005 for The Ham Funeral/Journal of a Plague Year. He has received six Sydney Theatre Award nominations, in 2008 for The Age I'm In, 2007 The Art of War, twice in 2006 with The Lost Echo and Now That Communism Is Dead, Life Feels Empty and another double nomination in 2005 for Festen and Julius Caesar. He also received another nomination for a Helmpann Award in 2002 for Three Sisters and a Green Room nomination in 2007 for Doubt. Max has worked extensively with the STC and also with Company B, State Theatre Company of South Australia, Malthouse Theatre, ICA, QTC, Legs on the Wall, Hothouse Theatre and Griffin Theatre Company. In 2008, Max composed choir arrangements for the feature film Hey Hey It's Esther Blueburger starring Toni Collette. In 2010, he was composer/sound designer Force Majeure's Not in a Million Years and for the STC productions of True West, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Oresteia and Long Days Journey into the Night and already this year for Before/After. In 2011 Max was Artist in Residence at NIDA. In 2012 Max was Composer and Sound Designer for the Australian and European tour of STC's Gross Und Klein which starred Cate Blanchett.
Max's work as director includes STC'S Manna (2009), the workshop production of Nether, the Australian premiers of Richard Forman's works Now That Communism is Dead My Life Feels Empty (B Sharp and Melbourne Festival of the Arts in 2007), I've Got the Shakes (Darlinghurst Theatre in 2004) and My Head Was A Sledgehammer (B Sharp in 2001) and his own work Close Your Little Eyes, commissioned by the Sydney Festival at the Opera House.
